PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Victories in seven of the 10 weight classes helped propel Augustana to a 34-9 win over Wisconsin-Platteville in non-conference wrestling action on Thursday, January 22 in Platteville, Wisconsin. The Vikings moved over the .500 mark with the win and are now 6-5 on the season.
 
The match started at 141 pounds, instead of the usual 125, and freshman Collin Tomkins (Grandville HS, Grandville, Mich.) got things going with a 17-4 mauling of Jeremy Peterson to give the Vikings a quick 4-0 lead. After Matt Sears (Marist HS, New Lenox, Ill.) lost a tough 9-7 decision to Mason Bohm at 149, senior Hector Ruiz (East Aurora HS, Aurora, Ill.) picked up a 13-5 win over Isaac Brosinski at 157. That gave Augustana a second straight win with bonus points and the Vikings led 8-3.
 
Sophomore Jordan Furiosi (Valley Christian HS, San Jose, Calif.) lost 4-1 to Randy Wade at 165 and heading into the 174 pound weight class the Vikings led 8-6.
 
Augustana won the next four weight classes, three of those by pin, and put the match out of reach. First up was senior Jordan Richardson (Grandville HS, Wyoming, Mich.) at 174 and he trounced Trenton Larson 11-3 to once again pick up a bonus point and the team score went to 12-6. Senior Thomas Reyhons (Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) pinned Dylan DeShane at 2:02 of the 184 pound match and sophomore Christos Giatras (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) followed with a fall in just :33 at 197. That pushed the Viking lead to 24-6 and senior John Seaman (Munster HS, Munster, Ind.) sealed the team's win with a pin in 2:47 at 285 pounds over Brandon Boyle.
 
Junior Jimmy Panozzo (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) lost a 3-1 decision to Cole Ferguson at 125 but freshman Brendan Gould (Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) closed out the match on the right note for Augustana with an 11-2 win over Zach Stenger at 133.
 
All seven of the Viking wins in the 34-9 victory came with bonus points attached. Head coach Eric Juergens' team won three by fall and four by major decision.
