Vikings sweep Concordia to move to 12-1
 
CHICAGO, Ill. – In the opening round of the University of Chicago's Gargoyle Classic, Augustana pushed its overall record to 12-1 with a convincing 3-0 victory over Concordia-Chicago. The Vikings of first year head coach Kelly Bethke won a narrow 27-25 decision in the first game and then swept the match with 25-14 and 25-12 victories in sets two and three.
 
Bethke cleared the bench in this win, with a total of 18 players seeing the court and 12 of those recorded at least one kill. Senior Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) led the way with nine kills and she only had one error in 19 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .421. She also had three digs and a service ace.
 
The Vikings were sharp on the offensive end with a total of 42 kills against just seven errors in 79 attempts for a hitting percentage of .443. Senior Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) had five kills and no errors in eight attempts for a .625 percentage. She also had two blocking assists. Senior Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.), sophomores Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.), Amy Kalkhoff (Clear Creek Amana HS, North Liberty, Iowa) and Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) and freshman Maissie Musick (Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.) all had four kills.
 
Junior Jordan Hampel (Hilliard-Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) led the team in setting assists with 20 and she also had 20 assists and one dig. Sophomore Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) had 12 assists with three digs and a dig.
 
Senior Julee Morrison (Chapparal HS, Scottsdale, Ariz.) and junior Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) each had seven digs.

University of Chicago hands Augustana 3-0 defeat in Gargoyle Classic
 
CHICAGO, Ill. – Augustana had no answer for the University of Chicago attacking duo of Morgan Barry and Jasmine Mobley and dropped a 3-0 (15-25; 17-25; 21-25) decision to the Maroons in the second round of the Gargoyle Classic on Friday, September 26. Barry and Mobley combined for 25 kills on 64 attempts with just four errors and had 10 digs, four blocking assists and two service aces.
 
The Vikings got 11 kills from junior Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) and 10 from senior Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) Murray had seven digs and two blocking assists while Dudley had three digs and one blocking assist. No other Augustana player was in double digits in kills.
 
Junior Jordan Hampel (Hilliard-Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) had 15 setting assists and senior Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) led the team in digs with 15.
