Kelly Bethke's team won the first two games handily by scores of 25-13 and 25-15 before enduring a long struggle in the third and deciding set that finally ended with the visitors on top 32-30.
With the win Augustana moves to 10-1 overall with the next match being the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin opener at home on Wednesday, September 24 against Illinois Wesleyan. That contest is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
Senior
Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) was a force on offense against the Scots. She led the team in kills with 16 and had just two errors in 27 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .519 for the game. She also added seven digs, three blocking assists and one solo block. She had a setting assist as well. Junior
Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) was also in double figures in kills with 12 and she had just three errors in 29 attempts for a .310 hitting percentage. Murray also had three digs.
Senior
Hailee Brayton (Peru St. Bede Academy, LaSalle, Ill.) added five kills with a dig and two blocking assists. The Vikings hit at a .320 clip for the game with 44 kills and just 11 errors in 103 total attempts.
Sophomore
Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) led the team in setting with 24 assists and she had four digs and a service ace. Junior
Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) had 10 assists and senior
Stephanie Petkovsek (Lisle HS, Lisle, Ill.) chipped in with seven assists and a pair of digs.
Junior
Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) led the team in digs with 15 while freshman Maissie Musick
(Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.) had three assisted blocks.
This was the fourth victory over Monmouth in the last five meetings between the two teams.
