9-0 win over Elmhurst lifts Vikings to 9-2 overall and 4-2 in the CCIW

Augustana defeated Elmhurst 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the 
Lower Campus Courts to move to 9-2 on the season and 4-2 in 
CCIW play.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – For the third straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin match in a row the Augustana women's tennis team was on the winning end of a 9-0 decision.  The Vikings of head coach Jon Miedema blanked Elmhurst 9-0 on Tuesday, September 16 at the Lower Campus Courts.
 
In the last three CCIW matches Augustana has posted 9-0 shutout victories over Illinois Wesleyan, Millikin and Elmhurst and in the process has moved its overall record to 9-2 and its mark in the conference to 4-2.
 
The Vikings jumped on top 3-0 after doubles with three fairly easy victories. Sophomores Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) made short work of Lauren Kuehn and Nicole Darga at number one by a score of 8-0. Freshman Mollie Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) and senior Miranda Pence (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) beat Hannah Vaselaney and Brittany Kuehn 8-3 at number two. In the number three spot sophomore Amy Even (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) and senior Chelsea Lavin (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) beat Allie Moran and Andriana Parente 8-1.
 
Lauren Goggin defeated Darga 6-1; 6-0 at number one while Dana Goggin beat Brittany Kuehn 6-0; 6-1 at number two. Both of the Goggin twins are now 8-1 in singles play.
 
Magee beat Vaselaney 6-0; 6-0 at number three to move to 8-2 as well and Pence upped her record to 8-3 with a 6-1; 6-2 win over Lauren Kuehn.
 
Sophomore Vicki Andonova (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) defeated Moran 6-1; 6-2 at number five to move to 6-4 while freshman Rachel Kammerzelt (The Prairie School, Union Grove, Wis.) is now 4-1 after winning 6-0; 6-0 over Parente at number six.
 
Augustana will send four players (Lauren Goggin, Dana Goggin, Magee and Andonova) to the ITA Fall Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan over the weekend of September 19-21. The next dual meet for the Vikings will be September 23 when Miedema will split his squad send one team to Chicago to take on North Park in a CCIW match while another squad will stay home and take on the University of Dubuque. Both matches are scheduled to take place at 4:00 p.m.
