Dana Goggin picks up lone victory in 8-1 loss to Wheaton

Sophomore Dana Goggin won her match at number two singles on Saturday, September 13
against Wheaton to move her record to 6-1 on the year. She was the lone Viking to post a
victory in an 8-1 Thunder victory at the Lower Campus Courts.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Sophomore Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) was the lone winner on Saturday, September 13 as Augustana dropped a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's tennis match to Wheaton by a score of 8-1 at the Lower Campus Courts. The Vikings are now 6-2 on the season and 1-1 in the CCIW while Wheaton moves to 5-1 and 3-0.
 
Goggin upped her record to 6-1 on the season with a 6-1; 7-5 victory over Katie Park at number two singles. Her lone loss so far came on September 7 to Kezia Koroma of Cornell by the score of 6-0; 5-7; 10-12.
 
Freshman Mollie Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) went three sets with Lauren Schlabach at number three singles before falling 5-7; 6-4; 4-6.
 
Sophomore Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.), Dana's twin sister, lost to Julie Buursma 0-6; 5-7 at number one. Senior Miranda Pence (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) fell to Kirstie White 1-6; 1-6 at number four and sophomore Vicki Andonova (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) dropped a 2-6; 0-6 decision to Miranda Kay at number five. Wheaton's Erika Nelson beat freshman Rachel Kammerzelt (The Prairie School, Union Grove, Wis.) 1-6; 0-6 at number six.
 
Wheaton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match after the doubles play was completed. The Goggin twins fell to Buursma and Park 4-8 at number one. Andonova and Magee lost a 2-8 decision at number two to White and Schlabach and Pence and senior Chelsea Lavin (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) dropped a 3-8 decision to Nelson and Kay at number three.
 
Augustana will play two CCIW matches tomorrow (Sunday, September 14) in an unusual road double header. The Vikings will face Illinois Wesleyan at 10:00 a.m. in Bloomington, Illinois and then will head down to Decatur, Illinois to take on Millikin at 3:00 p.m.
