Sophomore Dana Goggin won twice at number one doubles,
playing with her twin sister Lauren, and twice at number two
singles as Augustana beat North Central (8-1) and Loras (9-0)
on Monday, September 1 at the Lower Campus Courts.ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Taking advantage of some nice weather on Labor Day, the Augustana women's tennis team rolled to a pair of victories on Monday, September 1. The Vikings tipped off the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin season on the right note with an 8-1 win over North Central in a match that began at 9:15 in the morning. They finished the day with a win over non-conference opponent Loras by a score of 9-0.
Both matches were played on the newly refurbished Lower Campus Courts and in the process head coach
Jon Miedema's team moved to 3-0 on the season. However, the second match of the day, the 9-0 win over Loras, was actually finished at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Illinois because of rain in the afternoon.
Augustana will be in action again on Saturday, September 6 with a pair of home matches. The first will be a CCIW battle with Carthage at 9:00 a.m. and the afternoon will conclude with a 3:00 p.m. contest against Monmouth.

Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) cruised to an 8-2 win over Reynolds Cross and Kelsey Forkin to start things. Freshman
Mollie Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) and sophomore
Vicki Andonova (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) beat Katie Drone and Jessie Degroot 8-4 at number two. The number three team of senior
Miranda Pence (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) and sophomore
Amy Even (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) beat Miranda Grizaffi and Hanna Andersson 8-2 at number three.
With the quick start in doubles, the Vikings continued to play well in singles.
Lauren Goggin beat Drone 6-0; 6-1 at number one and
Dana Goggin took care of Grizaffi 6-0; 6-1 at number two. Magee picked up a 6-3; 6-3 win over Degroot at number three singles.
Pence won a tough match against Cross at number four by scores of 7-6; 7-6. Andonova defeated Forkin 6-3; 6-1 at number five.
The lone loss came at number six singles where North Central's Clare O'Connor beat Augustana freshman
Alyssa Reuter (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) 6-2; 6-1.
AUGUSTANA 9, LORAS 0 After beating North Central 8-1, Miedeman's crew went one better in the nightcap with a 9-0 shutout of Loras to move its record to 3-0 on the year. Once again the Vikings swept the doubles to take a 3-0 lead and then never looked back.
The Goggin twins defeated Elizabeth and Jessica Dickhut 8-4 at number one doubles while Magee and Andonova took care of Caroline Rainey and Kylie DeWees 8-1 at number two. The number three team of Pence and senior
Chelsea Lavin (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) beat Maggie Clements and Sam Pietruszynski 8-0.
Lauren Goggin beat Elizabeth Dickhut 6-4; 3-0 at number one singles while
Dana Goggin defeated DeWees 6-0; 6-0 at number two.
Magee finished off her first weekend as a collegiate player with a 6-0; 6-0 whitewash of Jessica Dickhut at number three singles. Pence beat Rainey 6-0; 6-2 at number four and Even took care of Carrie Crabill 6-3; 6-2 at number five. Freshman
Macy Koepke (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) beat Kelsey Woodward 6-4; 6-2 at number six.
