(Schiller International, El Prat de Llobregat, Spain) repeated as a first team All-CCIW selection and garnered team MVP honors, leading the 2013-14 Augustana men's tennis team to a 17-11 overall record, a 3-3 CCIW mark and a third-place finish at the conference tournament. In addition, senior Colin Arnold (Sterling HS Sterling, Ill.) set new school records for singles (68), doubles (84) and total (152) wins in a career and teamed with classmate Kevin Bayles (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Flossmoor, Ill.) to win a school-record 20 doubles matches this year.

Coach Jon Miedema's Vikings got things started at the CCIW Fall Tournament, with freshman Jonathon Elsey (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) winning the number five singles championship. Four Augustana players shared the title at third doubles. The team of sophomore John Alexander (Guilford HS, Loves Park, Ill.) and freshman Nicholas Prabhakar (Belvidere HS, Belvidere, Ill.) was unable to take on the freshman duo of Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) and Elsey due to weather conditions, resulting in a tie.

The CCIW dual season included wins over North Central (9-0), Millikin (9-0) and Illinois Wesleyan (7-2) and setbacks to Carthage (5-4), Wheaton (7-2) and Elmhurst (6-3). At the conference tournament, the Vikings defeated North Central 5-0 at the Moline tennis club in the first round. They lost to eventual champ Elmhurst 5-2 in the semifinals, but rebounded to avenge their regular season loss to Carthage, besting the Red Men 5-4 to capture third place.

Palmer put together a 17-7 record at first singles and teamed with senior Andy Wall (Notre Dame Academy, De Pere , Wis.) to go 16-13 at first doubles. The duo posted 33 career wins as a team, 9th best in Viking history. In addition to earning first team All-CCIW recognition for the second year in a row, Palmer was named the conference's Player of the Week on February 12 after going 3-1 as Augustana spilt duals with St. Norbert (W, 8-1) and Luther (L, 7-2) on February 8.

Wall, one of four seniors on Miedema's roster, played mostly at number two singles this year, although he did fashion a 5-2 mark in seven matches at first singles. Wall finished the year 13-18 in singles competition and 17-15 in doubles. He earned CCIW Player of the Week honors on April 9 after winning all four of his matches in Augustana wins over North Central (9-0) and Cornell (9-0) on April 5. Wall wrapped up his career fourth in program history in doubles wins with 69 and fifth in singles victories with 62. His 131 total wins rank fourth all-time for the Vikings.

Bayles was Augustana's number three singles player for most of the season and finished the year 16-14 in singles and 20-12 in doubles. He teamed with Arnold at second doubles to set a new school record for single-season wins, going 20-10 as a pair this year. The duo's .697 (23-10) career winning percentage is eighth-best in program history. Bayles ends his career third all-time at Augustana in singles wins (65), seventh in total wins (123) and tied for 10th in doubles wins (58).

In addition to his four school records, Arnold also garnered a CCIW Player of the Week award this year. The conference honored him on April 2 after he posted singles and doubles victories in a 5-4 loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Arnold went 17-13 in singles, playing mostly at number four, and 23-10 in doubles, primarily with Bayles at number two.

Miedema mixed up his fifth and sixth singles combos for much of the season. Woolf played the most matches (10) at fifth singles, but played as high as number three and posted a 12-11 record. He was named CCIW Player of the Week on February 5. Sophomore Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) logged the most matches (13) at number six and posted a 20-6 singles mark overall, leading the team in wins with the fifth-best single-season total in school history. After two seasons, Lenz's .816 (31-7) singles winning percentage is the best in program history. Elsey played at both fifth and sixth singles and went 12-1, a .923 winning percentage which is third-best in school history. Senior Grant Wick (Windsor HS, Fort Collins, Colo.) played anywhere from third to sixth singles, going 4-9.

Sophomore Austin Schoeck (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.), who shared team Hardest Worker honors with Lenz, teamed with Woolf at third doubles. The pair compiled a 17-5 (.773) record together this season, the fifth-highest winning percentage and tied for ninth-most wins in school history. Each played in other combinations as well and put up 23 doubles wins apiece this year.
