Colin Arnold ties career win record as Vikings beat North Central and Cornell

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Senior Colin Arnold (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) won both of his singles and doubles matches Saturday to push his career win total at Augustana to 139, tying him with Kyle Doyle for the most total victories in school history. Arnold's efforts help the Vikings win 9-0 over both North Central and Cornell. Coach Jon Miedema's squad improves to 10-7 on the season heading into a dual at Ashford on Wednesday, April 9.

The Vikings rolled to an easy 9-0 victory over North Central in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's tennis opener on Saturday, April 5 at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Illinois. Augustana moved to 9-7 overall and 1-0 with the win while the Cardinals fell to 6-5 and 0-1.
 
In doubles action, the three Augustana teams only surrendered a grand total of five points as the Vikings jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Junior Lawrence Palmer (Schiller International School, El Prat de Llobregat) and senior Andy Wall (Notre Dame Prep, DePere, Wis.) defeated Rustam Saini and Josh Rodig 8-2 at number one while seniors Kevin Bayles (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Homewood, Ill.) Arnold took care of Connor and Mason Sass 8-1 at number two. Freshman Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) and sophomore Austin Schoeck (Rock Island Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) beat Jesse Adamson and Aleksandar Vasic 8-2 at number three.
 
When singles started, the Vikings were just as dominant as Palmer beat Saini 6-2; 6-1 at number one and Wall shutout Rodig 6-0; 6-0 at number two. Bales beat Oliver Moews 6-1; 6-2 at number three with Arnold taking care of Mason Sass 6-1; 6-1 at number four. Woolf defeated Adamson 6-2; 6-2 at number five and sophomore Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) beat Connor Sass 6-3; 6-3 at number six.

The Vikings made it a perfect 18-0 on the day with a 9-0 whitewash of Cornell at Augustana's Lower Courts in the afternoon.
 
Palmer and Wall scored an 8-3 win over Joseph Gelfand and Thomas Weiss at first doubles. At number two, Arnold and Bayles were 8-0 winners over Ben Williamson and Joe Reyes and at number three, it was Schoeck and Woolf defeating Hino Harada and Nolan Schillerstrom 8-1.
 
In singles play, Palmer defeated Gelfand 6-1, 6-1 at number one. Wall was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Weiss at number two and Bayles beat Williamson love, love at third singles. Arnold tied Doyle's record with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Reyes at number four. At fifth singles, it was Lenz besting Harada 6-4, 6-2 and freshman Jonathon Elsey (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) beat Schillerstrom 6-0, 6-3 at number six.
