ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – In the final tune-up before the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin's NCAA qualifying tournament next weekend, Augustana dropped a 7-2 decision to Grinnell on Saturday, April 26 at the Lower Campus Courts. The Vikings, who had defeated Grinnell 8-1 way back on September 7, are now 17-6 overall.
Grinnell swept the doubles competition to take a 3-0 early in the match and then the two teams split the six singles matches. Senior
Kim Sawyer (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) pushed her record to a glossy 22-6 with a 6-2; 2-6; 7-5 win over Shirlene Luk at number one.
Junior
Aileen MacDonald (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) beat Clo Thirquoin at number three by scores of 6-3; 6-1. MacDonald is now 13-10 on the year.
Augustana will open play in the CCIW's tournament to determine the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a match against Carthage on Friday, May 2 at 2:00 p.m. in Elmhurst, Illinois.
