Men's tennis moves to 14-8 win 9-0 win at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Augustana had little trouble in dispatching Dubuque9-0 in non-conference men's tennis action on Wednesday, April 16. The Vikings cruised through the match at the Fran Farber Courts in Dubuque, Iowa and in the process ran their record to 14-8.
 
It started in doubles when Augustana jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a sweep. The number one team of senior Andy Wall (Notre Dame Academy, DePere, Wis.) and junior Lawrence Palmer (Schiller International School, El Prat de Llobregat, Spain) beat Dishon Deering and Brandon Kroeger 8-3. Senior Colin Arnold (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) and sophomore Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) beat Nikolay Gospodinov and Andrew Drummond 8-1 at number two. Sophomore Austin Schoeck (Rock Island Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and freshman Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) beat Trevor Calahan and Jacob Mohlis 8-2 at number three.
 
Palmer and Wall are now 13-9 in doubles while Schoeck and Woolf have a 12-4 record.
 
Wall stepped in at number one singles and beat Deering 6-2; 6-3 to raise his record to 12-13 on the year. Arnold jumped into the number two spot, from his usual four position, and beat Gospodinov 7-5; 6-1 and is now 16-9. Woolf was at number three and he beat Kroeger 6-0; 6-0 to run his mark to 11-8. Lenz played at number four and took down Drummond 6-1; 6-1 to post his team leading 17th win against just four losses.
 
Freshman Jonathon Elsey (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) beat Calahan 6-3; 6-0 at number five and is now a glossy 12-1 on the year. Schoeck picked up a 6-1; 6-3 victory over Mohlis at number five and he is 6-3 this season.
 
Augustana will host Illinois Wesleyan in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin match on Tuesday, April 22 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lower Campus Courts. The Vikings also play at Wheaton on April 25 at 4:00 p.m. and at Elmhurst on April 26 at 11:00 a.m.
