MOLINE, Ill. – A 2-1 deficit in double proved to be the difference as Augustana dropped a 5-4 decision to Coe on Saturday, March 15 in non-conference women's tennis action at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Illinois. The Vikings and the Kohawks split the singles matches but the one point edge in doubles was too much to overcome.

Senior Kim Sawyer (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) and sophomore Aileen MacDonald (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) picked up the lone Augustana victory in doubles by defeating Diannah Watson and Laura Birky 8-4. This was Sawyer's first action of the spring after spending the months of January and February in Australia on an internship.

The Vikings' number one doubles team of freshmen Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) dropped an 8-3 decision to Tai Lucero and Jordan Ferree. The number three team of freshman Vicki Andonova (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) and junior Miranda Pence (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) lost a tough 9-7 match at number three to Sarah Lasecki and Tamara Washington.

Sawyer defeated Lucero 6-3; 6-2 at number one singles and Lauren Goggin beat Amy Sebastian 7-6; 7-5 at number two. Senior Mariah Bardo (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) had the other Augustana win when she defeated Tamara Washington 6-4; 6-7; 10-9 at number six.

MacDonald fell in a tight one at number four 6-2; 4-6; 4-6 to Birky and senior Emily Kaczmarek (Glenbard South HS, Lombard, Ill.) lost 2-6; 6-2; 1-6 at number five to Elizabeth Hoffmann.

After losing the tough match to Coe, the Vikings lost 9-0 to 28th ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater later in the afternoon. MacDonald had the best chance at victory when she lost in three sets 7-5; 5-7; 5-10 at number four to Erika Williams.

Augustana will head to St. Louis, Missouri to face Washington University and Principia on Saturday, March 22.
