Victories over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez and Capital move women's tennis record to 13-0

PALMAS DEL MAR, HUMACAO, PUERTO RICO – Despite playing without number one player Kim Sawyer (Batavia, HS, Batavia, Ill.), Augustana stayed undefeated for the season with a pair of women's tennis victories on Thursday, February 27 in Palmas Del Mar, Humacao, Puerto Rico. It was the first action of the spring break trip for the Vikings and the first time on the court since compiling a perfect 11-0 record during the fall season.
 
Head coach Jon Miedema's team is now 13-0 after beating Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 7-2 and Capital 8-1.
 
AUGUSTANA 7, PUERTO RICO-MAYAGUEZ 2
 
The Vikings dropped one match in doubles and one in singles en route to a 7-2 victory over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez to move to 12-0 on the season.
 
Sophomore Aileen MacDonald (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) and senior Emily Kaczmarek (Glenbard South HS, Lombard, Ill.) picked up an 8-2 win over Nicole Rivera and Ana Nieves at number two doubles while the number three team of freshmen Vicki Andanova (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) and Amy Even (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) beat Angiemar Torres and Natalie Sanches 9-7.
 
Freshman Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) won at number one singles 6-4; default against Carolyn Colon. Her twin sister Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) beat Nicole Rosich 6-1; 6-1 at number two. Kaczmarek beat Nieves 6-2; 6-3 at number four and senior Mariah Bardo (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) handled Torres 7-5; 6-0 at number five. Andanova defeated Sanches 6-4; 7-5 at number six.
 
AUGUSTANA 8, CAPITAL 1
 
A loss at number three doubles was all that prevented Augustana from winning all the matches in an 8-1 win over Capital that pushed the Vikings to 13-0 on the year.
 
The Goggin sisters won 8-4 at number one doubles over Ashlin Gable and Jennie Schott and MacDonald and Emily Kaczmarek beat McLaughlin and Alyssa Teler 8-3 at number two.
 
In singles action Dana Goggin defeated Gable 6-1; 6-1 at number one. Emily Kaczmarek moved into the number two slot and came away with a 6-1; 6-2 victory over Schott. Bardo beat Teler 6-5; 7-5 at number three and sophomore Lauren Kaczmarek (Glenbard South HS, Lombard, Ill.) beat Corinne Hohenstein 6-2; 6-1 at number fourth. Even beat Rebecca Hunt 6-0; 6-2 at number five and junior Kelsey Kammerzelt (The Prairie School, Union Grove, Wis.) beat Kelsey Niese 6-7; 6-2; 6-2 at number six.
