DUBUQUE, Iowa – Eighth ranked Loras used a quick start as a springboard to victory on Wednesday, December 17 in a 20-18 win over Augustana in non-conference wrestling action in Dubuque, Iowa. The Duhawks won five of the first six weight classes to jump out to a 17-3 lead.
 
The only Viking to win in the early going was freshman Brendan Gould (Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) at 133 pounds. Gould defeated Michael Triplett by a score of 7-3 to run his record this year to 13-5.
 
After Gould won at 133, Augustana did not taste victory again until 174 pounds when senior Jordan Richardson (Grandville HS, Wyoming, Mich.) beat Joe Butler 6-0.  Richardson is now 14-7 on the season. Senior Thomas Reyhons (Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) pinned Isaiah Castillo in 1:31 at 184 pounds to trim the Loras lead to 17-12. Reyhons has fashioned a 14-3 mark this year.
 
At 197 pounds the Duhawks Malcom Watson defeated Augustana sophomore Ethan Benoit (Marist HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.) 6-3 to clinch the victory for Loras. Gould is 13-5 this year.
 
Senior John Seaman (Munster HS, Munster, Ind.) picked up a forfeit win at 285 to account for the final score of 20-18. Seaman is 15-2 this year.
 
Augustana will be in action again on January 9 at the National Dual Tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
