Marissa Pezzopane (Addison Trail HS, Wood Dale, Ill.) but it was not enough.
Clarke used a balance attack that saw five players hit the double figure mark in scoring with Anna Hahn leading the way with 18 points while Kelsey Ernst dropped in 15. Breland Prochaska scored 13, Savannah Shepler had 11 and Amanda Hamilton finished with 10. Those five players shot .676 from the field on a combined 23-34 and were five of 9 from three point range.
The game was close during the early going before Clarke took a six point lead (40-34) at halftime. The Vikings tied the contest at 40-40 in the early going of the second period thanks to baskets by Pezzopane, senior
Valerie VanRoeyen (Libertyville HS, Grayslake, Ill.)and Pezzopane again.
After Augustana tied the game with 17:08 left to play, the homestanding Crusaders scored seven of the game's next nine points to take a 47-42 lead. Clarke's 23-8 run eventually ended with the Crusaders leading 63-48 at the 7:47 mark.
Pezzopane led the way with 22 points on nine of 19 shooting and four of six from the field. She grabbed three rebounds with an assist and three steals. McNally scored 15 points and had two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Clarke held a 31-21 edge in rebounding and forced 21 Augustana turnovers. The Crusaders are now 6-4 on the season while Augustana is 1-3.
The Vikings will be in action again on Saturday, November 29 at Webster in St. Louis, Missouri.
