DUBUQUE, Iowa – A quick start helped fuel Augustana's 24-15 wrestling victory over Dubuque on Saturday, November 15 in Dubuque, Iowa. The Vikings won the first three weight classes to stake themselves to a 10-0 lead and were never headed en route to evening their season's record at 1-1.
 
It started at 125 pounds where junior Jimmy Panozzo (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) trounced Riley Sweetland 9-0 to move to 5-2 on the season. Freshman Brendan Gould (Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) beat Nicholas Riva 5-0 at 133 and freshman Colin Tomkins (Grandville HS, Grandville, Mich.) beat Stephen Rosenburg 12-6 at 141. In running his personal record to 6-2, Tomkins also staked Augustana to a 10-0 lead.
 
Dubuque's Kody Krenz got the Spartans back into the match with a pin of sophomore Brian Egan (Buffalo Grove HS, Buffalo Grove, Ill.) at 6:55 of the 149 pound match.
 
Senior Hector Ruiz (East Aurora HS, Aurora, Ill.) picked up a 12-4 win over Frank Frasetto at 157 to push his record to 5-2 and advance Augustana's lead to 14-6.
 
After senior Connor Cummings (Downers Grove North HS, Woodridge, Ill.) lost to the Spartans' Manuel Mendoza 6-3 at 165 the score was 14-9.
 
The Vikings won three of the last four weight classes to secure the victory.
 
Senior Jordan Richardson (Grandville HS, Wyoming, Mich.) won a close 3-2 decision over Elton Turnage at 174. Richards is now 5-1 on the year and his victory pushed Augustana ahead 17-9. Senior Thomas Reyhons (Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) ran his mark to 6-0 with a 12-1 win over Cody Ortmann at 184 and the Viking lead grew to 21-9.
 
Sophomore Ethan Benoit (Marist HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.) was pinned at 4:01 in the 197 pound bout to make it 21-12 but senior John Seaman (Munster HS, Munster, Ind.) closed out the match with a 3-1 win over Dan Howell at 285. Seaman is now 6-0 on the year.
 
Augustana will be in action again on Thursday, November 20 when it hosts North Central in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin bout at 7:00 p.m. in the Carver Center.
