Sweep of Titans pushes women's tennis to 4-0 overall

Augustana upped its overall women's tennis record to 4-0 and its College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin mark to a perfect 3-0 on Saturday, September 7 with a 9-0 win over Illinois Wesleyan. The Vikings jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and were never headed in beating the Titans for the second straight year and the third time in the last four meetings.
 
Senior Kim Sawyer (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) and sophomore Aileen MacDonald (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) moved up to the number one doubles spot for this match and came away with an 8-5 victory over Andrea Kerwin and Lauren Drawbridge.
 
Freshman Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.), playing without her twin sister Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.), had no trouble adjusting to new partner freshman Vicki Andonova (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) at number two doubles. Goggin and Andonova defeated Svenja Schroeder and Lauren Casey 8-4. Juniors Miranda Pence (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) and Chelsea Lavin (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) beat Brianna Dao and Nina Waszak 8-1 at number three doubles.
 
Sawyer moved to 6-1 on the year with a 6-3; 6-1 win over Kerwin at number one singles. Lauren Goggin defeated Schroeder 6-0; 6-1 at number two. MacDonald took care of Drawbidge 6-1; 6-3 at number three. Goggin is now 4-0 and MacDonald is 3-0.
 
Senior Emily Kaczmarek (Glenbard South HS, Lombard, Ill.) is now 5-2 after beating Dao 6-3; 6-1. Senior Mariah Bardo (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) beat Casey 6-2; 6-0 and evened her record at 2-2. Pence defeated Josie Linman 6-2; 6-1 in her first singles action of the season.
