Vikings clinch undefeated CCIW regular season with 9-0 victory at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. – With cool efficiency Augustana dispatched of Elmhurst 9-0 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's tennis action on Sunday, September 29. The victory allowed the Vikings to finish the fall portion of the 2013-14 campaign with a perfect 11-0 record, including a 6-0 mark in the CCIW.
 
Head coach Jon Miedema's team rolled past the Bluejays, who fell to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the CCIW, and secured the number one seed in the CCIW's automatic qualifying tournament, which will be held in May. The Vikings will now try to win their first CCIW title since 1997 this weekend at the league's flighted tournament in Bloomington, Illinois.
 
Augustana swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead heading into the singles' play.
 
Freshmen Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) took a close 8-6 decision from Cassie Kovach and Meg Griffin at number one. The Goggin twins are now 10-3 on the year. Senior Kim Sawyer (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) and sophomore Aileen MacDonald (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) beat Annie Duggan and Nicole Darga 8-4 at number two to push their record to 10-2.
 
Juniors Chelsea Lavin (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) and Miranda Pence (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) are now 9-3 after beating Jennifer Guenther and Kayla Mangiapane 8-1 at number three doubles.
 
Sawyer beat Kovach at number one singles 6-2; 6-3 and is now 16-2 overall. Lauren Goggin beat Duggan 6-0; 6-3 at number two and Dana Goggin defeated Darga 6-0; 6-0. Lauren Goggin is 11-3 and Dana Goggin moved her mark to 7-3.
 
MacDonald is now 10-2 after beating Griffin 6-0; 6-1 at number four. Senior Emily Kaczmarek (Glenbard South HS, Lombard, Ill.) defeated Ragan Wilson at number five 6-2; 6-1 and is 10-3 and senior Mariah Bardo (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) took care of Kayla Mangiapane 6-1; 6-4 at number six to move to 7-3.
