Vikings move to 9-4 with straight set win over Monmouth

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Junior Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) had 11 kills and 15 digs Tuesday to lead Augustana to a three set win over Monmouth at Carver Center. The Vikings won 25-21, 25-14 and 25-17 to improve to 9-4 on the year. The Scots fall to 6-8.
 
Monmouth jumped in front 9-3 in the opening set, but Augustana roared back to take the lead at 14-13 and eventually win 25-21. The Vikings went ahead 7-1 in set two and led wire-to-wire in winning 25-14. The visitors led early in the third, only to have Augustana overtake them at 9-8 and go on to a 25-17 win. A kill by freshman Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) ended the match.
 
Morrissey finished with eight kills despite attempting just 14 attacks. Sophomore Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) had a team-high 17 digs. The setting combo of sophomore Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) and freshman Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldgridge, Iowa) recorded 16 and 15 assists, respectively. Hampel had a team-high three service aces while Lindaman added 10 digs. Junior Hailee Brayton (St. Bede Academy, La Salle, Ill.) led the Vikings with four blocks.
 
Coach Jamie Eickman's club opens CCIW play on Wednesday, October 2 when it travels to Bloomington, Illinois to take on Illinois Wesleyan. That match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
