Augustana moves to 2-0 with four-set win over Ripon

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Coach Jamie Eickman's Augustana volleyball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-1 win over Ripon at the Viking Classic Friday night. After splitting the first two sets by identical 25-18 scores, Eickman's club won a see-saw third set 25-23 before closing things out with another 25-18 win.
 
With the score tied at a set apiece, Augustana jumped out in front 13-7 in the third. The Red Hawks came storming back to go ahead 23-19 before the hosts righted themselves to claim the last six points for the win.
 
Freshman Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) and sophomore Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) each recorded nine kills to pace the Viking attack. Sophomore Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson, Hilliard, Ohio) had 19 assists, three more than freshman teammate Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Ill.), who also had a team-high three aces. Sophomore Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) led Augustana with 19 digs, while Murray added 13. Junior Hailee Brayton (St. Bede Academy, La Salle, Ill.) led in blocks with four solo and two assisted.
 
Eickman's crew is back in action at the Viking Classic on Saturday, August 31. Augustana takes on Westminster at 10:00 a.m. and Loras at 2:00 p.m.
