ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – After dropping the first game by a score of 25-15, Augustana rallied to pick up an impressive 3-1 (15-25; 25-16; 25-11; 25-14) victory over Fontbonne in the opening round of the Viking Classic in a sweltering Carver Center on Friday, August 30. The Vikings shook off the opening set loss to post the win thanks to a balanced offensive attack that had four players with at least six kills.
Junior Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) was in double digits with 10 kills and just one hitting error in 22 attempts for a .409 percentage. She also had two digs and one blocking assist. Sophomore Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) had seven kills with nine digs, one service aces and one block assist. Two newcomers got in the act with junior Hailee Brayton (St. Bede Academy, LaSalle, Ill.) posting seven kills with two block assists, one block solo, one dig and one setting assist. Freshman Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) had six assists, 12 digs and two service aces.
Sophomore Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) led the team in setting assists with 20 and she had a team-high three service aces with four digs and one kill. Freshman Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) added 10 setting assists with 10 digs and one service ace.
Sophomore Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) posted 18 digs and also had five setting assists with two service aces.
