FORT MYERS, Fla. – Augustana suffered its first dual meet loss of the season Saturday at the Florida Gulf Coast Duals, but bounced back with a win in its second matchup to move to 7-1 on the year. The 30th-ranked Viking grapplers fell 20-19 to 27th-ranked Alma before taking care of Wheeling Jesuit 26-6 later in the day. 141-pound sophomore Isaiah Schaub (St. Francis HS, Traverse City, Mich.), 149-pound junior Hector Ruiz (East Aurora HS, Aurora, Ill.) and junior John Schraidt (Riverside-Brookfield HS, Riverside, Ill.), at 285 pounds, were double winners for Augustana.
 
ALMA 20, AUGUSTANA 19
 
Tyler Foley (11-3) and Dan Martinez (9-7) got the Scots off to a good start. Foley bested Viking sophomore Jimmy Panozzo (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) 5-2 at 125 and Martinez beat freshman Sam Butler (Glenwood HS, Chatham, Ill.) 13-6 at 133. Butler fell to 11-7 on the year.
 
Back to back wins by Schaub at 141 and Ruiz at 149 gave Augustana a 9-6 lead. Schaub pinned Cas Strzynski (4-7) in 5:44 and Ruiz recorded a 7-4 decision over James Carey (2-2).
 
Three straight Alma victories put the Scots on top 16-9. Caleb Huff (10-7) got Alma even at 9-9 with a 14-12 sudden victory over junior Kevin Sundberg (Paw Paw HS, Paw Paw, Mich.) at 157. At 165, Matt Tuttle improved to 16-0 on the year with a 14-3 major decision over Viking junior Connor Cummings (Downers Grove North HS, Woodridge, Ill.) and Augustana senior Jordan Richardson (Grandville HS, Wyoming, Mich.) dropped a 5-2 decision to Jamie Jakes (14-5) at 174.
 
An 11-3 major decision by 184-pound junior Thomas Reyhons (Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) over Jared Groeneveld (7-3) got the Vikings to within 16-13, but Alma 197-pounder Trevor Maresh (5-3) answered in kind, defeating senior Hunter Feraco (Gull Lake HS, Battle Creek, Mich.) 9-1. Schraidt stuck Andrew Ackerman (4-6) in 1:27 at 285 pounds to wrap things up.
 
The Scots improved to 4-2 on the year, while Augustana dropped its first dual in seven outings.

In their second matchup of the day, the Vikings improved to 7-1 on the season, handing Wheeling Jesuit its second loss in five duals this year.
 
Panozzo Improved to 11-4 with a 2-1 win over Brad Kakos at 125. At 133, Scott Lopez got the Scots even with a 4-1 decision over Augustana freshman C.J. Sojka (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.). Sojka is now 7-9 on the year.
 
Five straight Viking wins from 141 to 174 pounds decided things. Schaub started the string, improving to 18-4 with an 18-6 major decision over Damon Outward. Ruiz bumped his record to 13-8 with an 8-4 win over John Bershom at 149 and Sundberg (16-6) defeated Dom Nania 8-2 at 157. Cummings improved to 12-7 with a 4-3 win over T.J. Smith at 165 and Richardson was a 15-5 major decision victor over Sawyer Leppla at 174, moving his record to 10-4 in the process.
 
Reyhons suffered just his fourth loss of the season against 19 wins at 184, falling to the Cardinals' Natt Hupp 10-5. Augustana finished strong, getting wins from Feraco (16-9) and Schraidt (15-7) at 197 and 285, respectively. Feraco scored a 10-4 decision over Max Lacey and Schraidt edged Logan Bauman by a score of 4-3.
