DUBUQUE, Iowa – Augustana dominated Loras in the opening dual meet of the 2013-14 season on Friday November 8 in Dubuque, Iowa.  The Vikings defeated the Duhawks 152-79, winning 10 of 13 events in the process.
 
Senior Michael Duy (Marmion Academy, Aurora, Ill.) was a double individual winner taking the 200 yard freestyle (1:48.93) and 500 yard freestyle (5:03.14) events. He also swam the second leg of the victorious 400 yard freestyle relay which clocked a time of 3:25.19.  He was joined on that unit by Felipe Hernandez (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.), Timothy Michaels (Pella HS, Pella, Iowa), and Justin Reppy (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.).
 
Reppy also won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:34.41 and finished second in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.96.  Hernandez won the 200 backstroke (2:04.97) and finished third in the 200 IM (2:07.13). Michaels added fourth place finishes in the 50 freestyle (:24.49) and the 100 freestyle (:54.86).
 
Junior Aaron Holt (Mt. Vernon HS, Mt. Vernon, Ill.) won the 200 IM in 2:05.10 and placed second in the 100 freestyle in :49.86. He led off the winning 400 medley relay which clocked 3:37.91.  He was joined by Ian Disteldorf (Brother Rice HS, Oak Forest, Ill.), David Sommers (Westlake HS, Thousand Oaks, Calif.), and Daniel Hinck (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.). Disteldorf took the 200 breaststroke in 2:22.45 and Sommers won the 200 butterfly (2:02.84) and finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:51.03). Hinck picked up a victory in the 50 freestyle (:23.23) and was third in the 100 freestyle (:51.34).
 
Josh Wielenga (Environmental Studies HS, Apple Valley, Minn.) finished second in both diving events scoring 146.50 points in the one meter and 229.50 points in the three meter.
 
Kyle Johnson (Shadow Mountain HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) took home a second place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:12.33. Adam Bernardi (Boylan Catholic HS, Belvidere, Ill.) finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:03.72) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:08.52).
 
Tim Durning (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) finished third in the 1000 freestyle (11:55.27) and fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:49.70). Also taking third was Bryce Dibadj (Glenbard West, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.52).
 
Alexander Putz (Oak Forest HS, Oak Forest, Ill.) took fourth in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:02.03. Robert Chaney (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:31.57.
 
Sophomore Austin Small (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) took home a fifth place finish in the 200 backstroke.
 
Augustana's next meet will be Saturday November 9 at home against Morningside and Lake Forest at 1:00 p.m. in the Carver Center.
