MONMOUTH, Ill. – In its first of two meets this weekend the Augustana women's swimming and diving team had four triple-winners in a dominant 158-73 win over Monmouth on Friday, November 22 in Monmouth, Illinois. The Vikings won all 13 events to move to a season record of 5-1 in dual competition.
Sophomore
Emma Novak (Eden Prairie HS, Eden Prairie, Minn.) swam season best times in both of her individual events on the night. Novak picked up her first victory in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:02.84. She went on to win the 100 butterfly with a mark of 1:03.00 and swam the third leg of the victorious 200 medley relay team that finished with a time of 1:56.05. Joining Novak on the relay team were
Allison Patch (Moline HS, Coal Valley, Ill.),
Emma Shie (Central HS, Davenport, Iowa), and
Hillary Ferguson (Waubonsie Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.).
Patch also took first in the 100 backstroke (1:04.23) as well as third in the 200 individual medley with a mark of 2:20.60. Shie, a triple-winner on the day, was victorious in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke with times of 2:20.60 and 1:10.67 respectively. Anchoring the 200 medley relay team, Ferguson also took home victories in the 50 freestyle (:25.93) and the 100 freestyle with a season's best :57.15.
Freshman
Michelle Johnson (Lockport Township HS, Homer Glen, Ill.) won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:19.77 and also finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:35.69). She also anchored the 200 freestyle relay team that finished first with a mark of 1:50.98. Joining the triple-winner were
Abigail Bean (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.),
Laura Pemberton (Fremont HS, Fremont, Neb.), and
McKenzie Mears (Mahtomedi HS, Mahtomedi, Minn.).
Bean also added a second place finish in the 50 freestyle finishing in :27.35. Swimming the second leg of the 200 freestyle relay, Pemberton also took home a fourth place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:14.52. Mears also earned two fourth place finishes on the day in the 50 freestyle (:27.82) and the 100 freestyle (1:00.88).
In the diving competitions,
Helen Myers (Pecatonica HS, Rock City, Ill.) was victorious in both the one meter five dive and one meter six dive events over Monmouth counterpart Allie Vallance. Myers finished with scores of 162.15 and 235.60 respectively in the events.
Erin Doty (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) ended the day with a second place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:03.89 and claimed third place in the 500 freestyle with a mark of 5:55.63. Junior
Jamie Graf (Lincoln-Way Central HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) registered two third place finishes, beginning with the 100 freestyle (1:00.87) followed by the 100 breaststroke (1:14.61).
Katie Pittman (Mahomet-Seymour HS, Mahomet, Ill.) took home a fourth place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:13.84.
Jordan Johnson (Appleton North HS, Appleton, Wis.) also contributed a fourth place finish with a mark of 1:14.96 in the 100 breaststroke. Freshman
Brittney Crawford (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) added a fourth place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:08.86) as well as fifth place in the 1000 freestyle (12:32.03).
Juniors
Alexis Thompson (Crystal Lake Central HS, Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and
Mackenzie Corrie (Midland HS, Charleston, Ill.) contributed a pair of fifth place finishes, Corrie in the 200 individual medley (2:55.31) and Thompson in the 100 butterfly (1:18.18).
Next for Coach Scott Johannsen's Vikings is the Illinois Wesleyan Invite on Saturday, November 23 in Bloomington, Illinois.
