MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Augustana men's swimming and diving team grabbed another dual meet victory as six athletes won multiple events on Friday, November 22 in Monmouth, Illinois. Coach Scott Johannsen's Vikings captured victories in the 11 of 13 events to beat Monmouth 159-78 for their fifth dual meet win.
Junior
Aaron Holt (Mount Vernon HS, Mount Vernon, Ill.) had a fantastic night swimming a season's best, as well as picking up a victory, in the 50 freestyle (:22.26). Holt also won the 100 backstroke (:54.62) and was the opener of the victorious 200 medley relay team that clocked a time of 1:40.28. Also on the relay team were
Ian Disteldorf (Brother Rice HS, Oak Forest, Ill.),
David Sommers (Westlake HS, Thousand Oaks, Cali.), and
Daniel Hinck (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.).
Disteldorf also picked up a victory in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.24. Sommers, another double-winner, added a win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:04.80. The anchor of the 200 medley relay team, Hinck, won the 200 freestyle clocking in at 1:49.40.
Junior
Michael Duy (Marmion Academy, Aurora, Ill.) was victorious in the 500 freestyle (5:10.41) and swam the third leg for the first place 200 freestyle relay team (1:32.65). Duy also added a second place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.35. Joining Duy in the 200 freestyle relay were
Matthew Roche (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.),
Kyle Johnson (Shadow Mountain HS, Phoenix, Ariz.), and
Justin Reppy (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.).
Roche also finished second in the 50 freestyle with a time of :23.10. Johnson pulled in a second place finish in the 100 butterfly (:58.17). Reppy ended the day by adding second and third place finishes in the 500 freestyle (5:10.70) and 200 freestyle (1:53.10) respectively.
Sophomore
Adam Bernardi (Boylan Catholic HS, Belvidere, Ill.) brought home a victory in the 1000 freestyle clocking a time of 10:27.23 as well as a second place finish in the 100 backstroke (:59.63).
Josh Wielenga (School of Environmental Studies, Apple Valley, Minn.) contributed victories in both diving events. He scored 142.15 in the one meter five dive competition and 216.60 in the one meter six dive event.
Felipe Hernandez (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) grabbed a pair of second place finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:06.70) and the 100 freestyle (:51.58). Junior
Timothy Michaels contributed a couple third place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles with times of :24.19 and :54.00 respectively. Also adding a third place finish was
Jasen Hengst (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) who did so in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:11.89.
Junior
Alexander Putz (Oak Forest HS, Oak Forest, Ill.) had two fourth place finishes on the day coming in the 1000 freestyle and 100 butterfly with times of 11:47.02 and 1:01.91 respectively.
Austin Small (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) and
Bryce Dibadj (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) each added a fourth place finish. Small did so in the 100 backstroke (1:00.60) and Dibadj in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.87).
Tim Durning
(Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) added two fifth places finishes on the day. He finished the 1000 freestyle in 11:48.79 and the 500 freestyle in 5:58.52. Brothers
Ryan Chaney (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa.) and
Robert Chaney (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) each contributed a fifth place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:03.44) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.30) respectively.
Next, the Vikings travel to Bloomington, Illinois on Saturday, November 23 to compete in the Illinois Wesleyan Invite.
