Vikings swamp Luther and Simpson to move to 4-1

DECORAH, Iowa – David Sommers (Westlake HS, Thousand Oaks, Cali.) and Aaron Holt (Mt. Vernon HS, Mt. Vernon, Ill.) were both triple winners on Saturday, November 16 as the Augustana men's swimming and diving team won dual meets against Luther and Simpson in Decorah, Iowa.  The Vikings beat Luther 128-95 and Simpson 185-23 to move to 4-1 in dual meets on the season.
 
Sommers swam the third leg of the victorious 400 medley relay team that finished with a time of 3:39.97. He also had first place finishes in the 100 butterfly (:53.13) and the 500 freestyle (5:04.33).  Holt was also a part of the first place 400 medley relay team (3:39.97), swimming the first leg. He also had a first place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of :22.32, currently a season's best. Holt's third victory of the day came in the 100 backstroke event with a time of :54.89.
 
Ian Disteldorf (Brother Rice HS, Oak Forest, Ill.) swam the second leg of the first place 400 medley relay team and also took first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.01. Daniel Hinck (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.) handled the final leg of the 400 medley relay team and also swam the final leg of the victorious 400 freestyle relay team that finished with a time of 3:21.66.  He also took home a second place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:51.37).
 
Also joining Hinck in the 400 freestyle relay was Michael Duy (Marmion Academy, Aurora, Ill.) who swam the second leg of the relay and also won the 200 freestyle event with a mark of 1:50.23. Duy also finished third in the 400 individual medley (4:45.42). Felipe Hernandez (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) swam the first leg for the victorious 400 freestyle relay team and also finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of :50.67. Rounding out the first place 400 freestyle relay team was senior Justin Reppy (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) who also finished second in the 1650 freestyle (17:47.93).  Adam Bernardi (Boylan Catholic HS, Belvidere, Ill.) took first place in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:26.49.
 
John Wielenga (School of Environmental Studies, Apple Valley, Minn.) was victorious in both diving events on the day.  In the one meter dive Wielegna finished with 236.40 points and in the three meter dive he finished with a score of 219.85.
 
Kyle Johnson (Shadow Mountain HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) took home a fourth place finish in the 100 freestyle event with a time of :52.46.  Freshman Timothy Durning (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) took fifth in the 1650 freestyle finishing in 19:55.57. Jasen Hengst (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) finished fifth in the 400 individual medley (4:50.13).
 
The Vikings are in action again this weekend with a meet at Monmouth Friday, November 22 at 6:30 p.m. as well as a meet at Illinois Wesleyan Saturday, November 23 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
