ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – With Augustana's dual meet against Dubuque tied at 13 after eight matches Saturday, junior 184-pounder Thomas Reyhons (Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) came through with a huge pin of Dubuque's Cody Ortman to key a 22-13 Viking win over the Spartans at Carver Center. In its second dual of the day, Coach Eric Juergens' squad dispatched Knox 51-3 to move to 3-0 on the year.
 
Viking 285-pounder John Schraidt (Riverside-Brookfield HS, Riverside, Ill.) got the hosts off to a good start against Dubuque, posting a 12-7 win over Logan Staver. At 125 pounds, Jimmy Ponozzo (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) scored a 12-4 major decision over the Spartans' Javier Guillen to give Augustana a 7-0 lead.
 
Dubuque took the next three matches, including a major decision (14-6) by Nick Drendel over Hector Ruiz (East Aurora HS, Aurora, Ill.) at 149 pounds, to take a 10-7 lead. Kody Krenz defeated Viking freshman C.J. Stojka (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) 7-0 at 133 and Brian Travis held off Isaiah Schaub (St. Francis HS, Traverse City, Mich.) 8-6 in an outstanding 141-pound match.
 
Weights 157 through 174 also produced tight battles. Viking junior Kevin Sundberg (Paw Paw HS, Paw Paw, Mich.) was a 5-3 overtime winner over Eric Powell at 157. Spartan Joe Kubica got the best of junior Connor Cummings (Downers Grove North HS, Woodridge, Ill.) 2-1 at 165 and junior 174-pounder Alex Bowers (Noblesville HS, Noblesville, Ind.) scored a 9-7 win over Derek Minch at 174 pounds to even the team score at 13-all.
 
That set the stage for Reyhons' heroics and senior 197-pounder Hunter Feraco (Gull Lake HS, Battle Creek, Mich.) finished things off with a 6-3 win over Dubuque's Nate Cristion.
 
Pins by Augustana freshman Sam Butler (Glenwood HS, Chatham, Ill.) over Knox's Matt Sugai at 125, sophomore Justin Smiley (Plainfield North HS, Plainfield, Ill.) over Kyle Heller at 149 and Sundberg over Eric Vogel at 157 highlighted the Vikings' lopsided victory over the Prairie Fire.
 
Also picking up a win for the hosts was Bowers, who beat Greg Ventris 8-3 at 174 pounds. The short-handed Prairie Fire forfeited at weights 133, 141, 165, 197 and 285 with Sojka, Schaub, Cummings, Feraco and Schraidt, respectively, credited with the victories. The only Viking setback was at 184 pounds, where junior Seth Whan (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) dropped a 4-0 decision to Knox's Matt Surprenant.
