ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Elmhurst, the sixth ranked team in the most recent AVCA Division III poll, defeated Augustana in straight sets Tuesday evening at Carver Center. The Bluejays won 26-24, 25-17 and 25-17 to improve to 21-2 overall and 3-0 in the CCIW. The Vikings drop to 11-8 and 1-1 in the league.
Augustana jumped out in front in each of the first two sets. In the opener, Elmhurst came back to tie the Vikings at 12-12 only to have Coach Jamie Eickman's club retake the lead. From there, it settled into a seesaw affair with Augustana serving for set point leading 24-23. However, the Bluejays took the next three points to win it. Set two saw Augustana take a 12-9 lead, but Elmhurst won 10 of the next 11 points and eventually won 25-17.
The Bluejays led start to finish in taking the third set by a score of 25-17.
Sophomore
Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) and juniors
Hailee Brayton (St. Bede Academy, La Salle, Ill.) and
Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) led the hosts with four kills each. Junior
Samantha Kammerman (Sherrard HS, Milan, Ill.) had a pair of kills and three service aces.
Freshman
Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) led the Vikings with nine assists and sophomore
Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) had a team-high 14 digs. Senior
Morgan Stittleburg (Black River Falls HS, Black River Falls, Wis.) and freshman
Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.) each had two blocks.
Marci Novak had a match-high 10 kills for Elmhurst. Hannah Nimrick had 21 assists and Hannah Lessen led three Bluejays in double figures with 15 digs.
The Vikings travel to St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday, October 11, facing Blackburn at 6:00 p.m. and Webster at 8:00 p.m.
