Vikings open Pumpkin Bash with four-set win over North Park

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana opened play in the third annual Pumpkin Bash Friday afternoon with a four-set win over North Park at Carver Center. The hosts won the first two sets 26-24 and 25-21, dropped the third 25-22 and took the fourth by a score of 25-13. Augustana improved to 15-10 overall and 3-2 in the CCIW, while North Park fell to 9-17 and 1-5 in the conference.
 
North Park won four straight points in the first set to even the score at 24-all, but the Vikings took the next two to capture the set. After splitting the second and third sets, Augustana led wire-to-wire in the fourth and final.
 
Junior Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) and sophomore Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) shared the team lead in kills with nine each. Morgan Stittleburg (Black River Falls HS, Black River Falls, Wis.), who was honored before the match as Augustana's lone senior player, contributed seven kills, as did juniors Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) and Hailee Brayton (St. Bede Academy, Peru, Ill.). Brayton's came on just 14 attempts and without committing an attack error.
 
Setters Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) and Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) led the Vikings with 24 and 16 assists, respectively. Murray had four services aces and Lindaman three.
 
Defensively, Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) led Augustana with 16 digs, while Murray recorded 15 and Leazer a dozen. Junior Samantha Kammerman (Sherrard HS, Milan, Ill.) had a team-high six blocks.
 
Coach Steve Hennings' Vikings are back in action at the Pumpkin Bash on Friday, October 25, at 8:00 p.m. Central and Augustana will square off for the third time this season. Play continues Saturday at the Pepsico Recreation Center.
