Volleyball opens CCIW play with comeback win at IWU

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Bouncing back from a 2-1 deficit after three sets, Augustana rallied and won games four and five to defeat Illinois Wesleyan 3-2 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin action on Wednesday, October 2 in Bloomington, Illinois. Head coach Jamie Eichman's team won the first set 25-15 and then lost a tough second game 28-26. The home standing Titans won the third 25-19 before the Vikings ripped off a 25-19 win in game four. In the fifth and deciding set Augustana won going away 15-8 to claim the match.
 
It was a balanced Viking attack that paved the way to the win in the first CCIW action of the year for both teams. Junior Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) pounded out 12 kills to lead the way with just four errors in 35 total attempts. She also had three service aces, 11 digs, a solo block and five setting assists.

Junior Hailee Brayton (St. Bede Academy, LaSalle, Ill.) picked up 11 kills with only four errors in 24 attempts and one dig. Junior Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) had nine kills with two solo blocks and one assisted block. Senior Morgan Stittleburg (Black River Falls HS, Black River Falls, Wis.) came through with eight kills and a dig.
 
Sophomore setter Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) picked up 24 setting assists with four service aces and 10 digs. Freshman setter Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) chipped in with 20 setting assists, 11 digs and two service aces.
 
Junior Julee Morrison (Chapparal HS, Scottsdale, Ariz.) led the team in digs with 13 and she also had two service aces and three setting assists. Sophomore Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) had 12 digs with five kills. Freshman Amy Kalkhoff (Clear Creek Amana HS, North Liberty, Iowa) picked up six kills and 11 digs.
 
Augustana is now 10-4 on the season and 1-0 in the CCIW while Illinois Wesleyan falls to 9-6 and 0-1. The Vikings will participate in the St. Mary's Invitational in Winona, Minnesota on Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5.
