Volleyball wins two of three matches on weekend trip south

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.—The Augustana volleyball team ventured south this past weekend, splitting a pair of matches against Webster and Blackburn in St. Louis, Missouri on Friday and defeating Lincoln Christian in Lincoln, Illinois on Saturday. The Vikings are now 13-9 on the season. They are 1-1 in the CCIW and play at North Central on Tuesday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m.
 
WEBSTER 3, AUGUSTANA 2 (27-25; 21-25; 22-25; 25-12; 15-10)
 
Augustana dropped the opener of its trip in five sets at Webster on Friday, October 11. The Gorloks, who improved to 16-4 on the year, took the first set 27-25. The Vikings came back to win 25-21 and 25-22 before dropping the fourth 25-12. Webster took the deciding set 15-10.
 
Sophomore Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) was the focal point on the attack for Augustana, leading the way with 12 kills. Junior Hailee Brayton (St. Bede Academy, Peru, Ill.) was next with eight. Freshman Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) and sophomore Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) had 25 and 20 assists, respectively. Murray had three of the Vikings' 11 service aces.
 
Sophomore Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) led the team with 26 digs, followed by Hampel (19) and Murray (10). Freshman Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.) had a team-high five blocks (two solo and three assists).
 
AUGUSTANA 3, BLACKBURN 0 (25-13; 25-9; 25-15)
 
The Vikings bounced back with a decisive straight-set win over Blackburn in a match also played at Webster on Friday. They improved to 12-9 on the year. The Beavers scored 13, nine and 15 points in the three sets and fell to 1-15 on the year.
 
Murray and junior Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) each had five kills and senior Morgan Stittleburg (Black River Falls HS, Black River Falls, Wis.), junior Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) and freshman Amy Kalkhoff (Clear Creek Amana HS, North Liberty, Iowa) added four apiece as Augustana compiled an impressive .382 hitting percentage, its second-highest of the season. Lindaman (17 assists) and Hampel (10 assists) again formed an effective setting duo and Siebert, Lindaman and junior Stephanie Petkovsek (Lisle HS, Lisle, Ill.) each had a trio of aces.
 
Defensively, Hampel had a team-high 16 digs and junior Katie Keller (Addison Trail HS, Addison, Ill.) led with three blocks.
 
AUGUSTANA 3, LINCOLN CHRISTIAN 1 (24-26; 25-15; 25-16; 25-22)
 
On Saturday, October 12, the Vikings avenged a 2012 loss at Lincoln Christian, knocking off the Red Lions in four sets to improve to 13-9. LCU dropped to 13-8 this season. After dropping the opening set 26-24, Augustana came back to take the next three by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-22.
 
Junior Samantha Kammerman (Sherrard HS, Milan, Ill.) had a big match with a team-high 10 kills and just one error in nine attack attempts for a hitting percentage of .474. Brayton and Murray added seven kills each. Brayton compiled a .500 hitting percentage with just one error in 12 attempts. Hampel and Lindaman split 34 assists evenly and Lindaman had a team-best four aces.
 
Siebert, with 14 digs, and junior Julee Morrison (Chaparral HS, Scottsdale, Ariz.), with 10, led the way defensively along with Kibir-Evans and Kammerman, who had seven and six blocks, respectively.
