David Voland, one of the most decorated and accomplished track & field athletes in Augustana history, will return to his alma mater this spring to help coach the horizontal jumps. The “Man of the Year” in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin in 2015, Voland left a legacy as a competitor that few can duplicate.
He was an 11-time NCAA Division III All-American and an 11-time CCIW champion during his career, which spanned from 2012 through 2015. Voland’s specialty was the 400 hurdles where he is the Vikings’ school record holder with a time of :50.86. He anchored the Augustana 4x400 team to the indoor NCAA Division III national title as a senior in 2015. He was a four-time All-American in his specialty, the 400 hurdles, and he won his other seven All-American certificates in the 4x400 relay (four times outdoors and three times indoors).
The USTFCCCA’s Midwest Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2015, he was the Most Outstanding Performer at the 2015 CCIW Indoor Championships. He was a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and also earned an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship as a senior.
A mathematics and secondary education major, Voland was a member of both the Phi Beta Kappa and the Pi Mu Epsilon honor societies.
