Illinois Wesleyan Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. --Â Illinois Wesleyan Athletics has announced the hiring of Augustana Director of Swimming & Diving,
Dan Lloyd.
Â
Lloyd, who coached the Vikings for 11 seasons, won CCIW Coach of the Year a total of five times between the men and women, and has boasted 12 combined CSCAA Academic Team selections.
"I am a coach, but first and most importantly I am a father," said Lloyd. "It is hard to leave Augustana after an amazing 11 years, but this decision was about being able to invest even more into my son's life and the deep love I have for him and my family. I am excited to be coming back to my hometown of Bloomington-Normal. It has been an incredible journey here at Augustana. God opened the door 11 years ago and I have been truly blessed with outstanding student-athletes and families who have invested in our program and it has been a true joy to be part of their lives as together we have built a program that has defined excellence in the classroom and the pool.  Thank you to President Talentino, Vice President Wes Brooks, Athletic Director
Mike Zapolski, our swimming and diving family and alumni and the entire Augustana community for all your love and support. It has been a true honor to represent Augustana College and this experience has impacted my life greatly."
Â
Under Lloyd's direction, the Augustana swimming & diving programs have combined for six CCIW titles in the last four seasons, including the third straight for the men in 2024-25 and third in the last four years for the women. In dual meets, Lloyd has amassed a 39-23 overall record with the men, good for the third-most wins in program history. On the women's side, he has a 44-18 all-time record, the second-highest win total in program history. This past season, he coached the program's first All-American in 39 years and his swimmers produced 104 All-CCIW performances, 80 program records, seven NCAA cut times, and five CCIW records during his tenure. Additionally, he has seen two CCIW First-Year Student-Athletes of the Meet, as well as the CCIW Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Year in 2019 and 2025. The Vikings also claimed both of the conference's Elite 26 awards this season following the conference championships.
Â
"Dan has been a tremendous ambassador for Augustana Athletics and our men's and women's swimming and diving programs the last 11 years," said Director of Athletics,
Mike Zapolski. "The listing of academic and athletic accomplishments during Dan's coaching tenure is impressive, and there is no question that he has elevated the competitiveness of both Augustana teams while attracting and mentoring student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom and the pool. Dan played a pivotal role in the creation and development of the Anne Greve Lund Natatorium, and this space has had a significant impact on the growth of the aquatics programs at Augustana."
