Augustana College Athletics

Willard L. Anderson graduated from Augustana College in 1940.  Anderson played basketball all four years while attending Augustana.  A quote from the Rock Island Argus in the fall of 1939 states, “The team this year is built around Willard Anderson.” 

In his junior year he became the second highest scorer in Augustana basketball history, a 2nd team All Conference selection, as well as honorable mention of the All State squad.  Anderson was Captain and catalyst of the Augustana basketball team his senior year.  He was named as a first team selection in the Little 19 Athletic Conference. 

Also during his senior year, Anderson served as editor of the Rockety-I and he was elected president of the Tribe of Vikings.  Anderson’s outstanding accomplishments as an athlete and student leader have won him the honor of being inducted into the Hall of Honor.
