Lettered four times (1968, 69, 70, 71)…Team captain in 1971…Led Vikings in earned run average three times (1.88 in 1969, 1.00 in 1970 and 1.43 in 1971)…Also led team in victories three times (6-1 in 1969, 4-3 in 1970 and 7-1 in 1971)…At one time held career school record for victories with 22, strikeouts with 240, earned run average with 2.60 and innings pitched with 204 1/3…He is now fourth on all-time victory list with 22-8 record, second in strikeouts, second in earned run average and fifth in innings pitched…At one time he held the top two spots on the single season strikeout list with 78 in 1971 and 70 in 1969, and even now he is third and fourth...His seven victories in 1971 is ninth on single season list...He is fourth (1.00 in 1970) and sixth (1.43 in 1971) on single season earned run average listing…Accounted for half (seven) of Augustana’s 14 victories in 1971…PERSONAL: Married to Betsy with a daughter Danielle (23) and son Kyle (21)…Currently serves as a collection servicing agent at Northwest Bank & Trust Company…Active in the banking business around the Quad Cities for over 30 years…Member of the Quad City Credit Association and the Alzheimer’s Association…TOM MESSMER ON HIS AUGUSTANA YEARS: “We had excellent academics and staff.
