Knut Erickson was probably Augustana’s first outstanding baseball player, starring for four seasons as a first baseman and serving twice as team captain.
But the talented athlete’s most important contributions to Augustana didn’t come until after his graduation in 1916. He entered the ministry and served for 17 years as a Lutheran minister and then became an administrator at Augustana, where he served for 22 years as comptroller, treasurer and vice-president. Augie’s current Erickson Dormitory Complex is named in his honor.
Every year one senior male athlete and one senior female athlete are awarded the Knut Erickson Award at the annual “Blanket Awards Dinner”. That award goes to the student athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average.
Knut passed away in 1965.
