Played 16 seasons in the National Football League for the Cincinnati Bengals…Was the AFC’s Most Valuable Player in 1981, the year he led the Bengals to the 1982 Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers…Lettered in 1967, 68, 69, 70…Named to Associated Press All-American team (honorable mention) as a sophomore in 1968…Was first team All-Lutheran College honoree as a sophomore and second team as a junior…Was named to the CCIW all-conference team three straight years – 1968, 69 & 70…Won the CCIW’s Most Valuable Player award in 1970…Still holds the following Augustana school records: Most Yards Passing-Game 410…Season 117…Career 6,131…Most Passes Attempted-Game 58…Season 239…Career 827…Most Passes Completed-Game 23…Season 136…Career 424…Most TD Passes-Game 5…Season 20…Career 48…Most Total Offense-Game 459 (49 rush & 410 passing)…Season 2,328 (211 rushing & 2117 passing)…Career 6679 (548 rushing, 6131 passing)…Is on the Augustana top ten list in the following categories: Scoring - eighth with 21 TD’s from 1967-1970…Career Top Ten List (1st) for passing with 424 completions…827 attempts and 6,131 Yards…Single Season Top Ten List: #1 in 1968 with 136 completions in 239 attempts for 2117 yards…He is second from 1970 with 113 completions, 234 attempts and 1,439 yards…He sits third with 1969 numbers and eighth from 1967…Team captain in 1970 Captain…He finished his career ranked fifth in NCAA history on the all time list for career total offense yardage with 6,679…He was tied for eighth on the NCAA College Division list (with Terry Bradshaw) for career passing yardage with 6,131…Selected to play in North-South Shrine Game in 1970…Led the conference in passing in 1968 and 1969…He led NAIA District 20 in total offense and in passing in 1968…He was fifth in the NAIA in passing that same year…In 1970 he was eighth in District 20 for scoring, first in passing and fifth in kick scoring…He was seventh in the nation (NAIA) in total offense and eighth in passing…Named to Academic All-America football team as a senior in 1970…When he graduated he held every Augustana school passing record, which totals 10…In basketball he lettered in 1968, 69 and 70 before passing up his senior season to concentrate on the NFL draft…Is a member of the 1,000 point club and still ranks in the top 20 (18th) on the school’s career scoring list with 1,044 points…1970 Captain & 1970 Most Inspirational Player…Native of Batavia, Illinois who played high school basketball with Dan Issell, who eventually played and coached in the NBA…Was a Math major at Augustana…PERSONAL: Married to Cristy…Three children: Matt, Megan and Molly…Currently employed as the quarterback coach by the Jacksonville Jaguars…Worked as a sportscaster for WKRC radio and television from 1987-83 and coached the Bengals in various capacities from 1993 through 2002…Earned his juris doctorate from Chase College of Law…KEN ANDERSON ON HIS AUGUSTANA YEARS: “I would like to say thanks to all the coaches and players who made this award possible.”
