Augustana College Athletics

Hugo Alvine was a 1929 Augustana graduate.  His nickname, "Ox", gives vivid expression to this reported strength and prowess as a football player.  His talents extended beyond football to basketball.  Alvine was a regular for three years on the basketball court.  

In 1930 Alvine was selected to the Mythical first team of the All-Augustana football team.  Alvine was Captain of the football team in the 1928 season, elected to the All-Conference team in 1926, 1927, and 1928, and served as Captain of the basketball team in 1926 and 1927.  Alvine has earned his spot in Augustana's Hall of Honor.
