Lettered in 1963, 1964, 1966, 1967…NCAA College Division individual national champion at 191 pounds in 1966 - first ever individual national champion in Augustana history…Three time NCAA All-American in 1964 (4th at 177), 1966 (1st at 191) and 1967 (4th at 191)…CCIW champion in 1964 at heavyweight and 1967 at 191…CCIW team champions 1963, 1964, 1965, 1967…Team was 13th in NCAA in 1965 and fifth in 1966… Finished career with 70-19-2 lifetime record…Team MVP as a freshman…and co-MVP as a senior…Won Luther Invitational in 1963-, 1966 and 1967 and won Wheaton Invitational in 1963, 1966 and 1967…FOOTBALL…Lettered in 1962, 63, 65, 66…All-CCIW selection in 1966…CCIW team champions in 1966 with a record of 5-1-0…team captain 1966…in 1962 caught 5 passes for 59 yards…PERSONAL: Married to JoAnn with three children (Sally Rae, Joe and Jessica)…Has Masters degree from Northern Illinois…Currently serves as technology coordinator for Waubonsie Valley High School in Naperville, Illinois where he has worked since 1975…Also coached and taught at Princeton High School and Oswego High School…FRED JOHNSON ON HIS AUGUSTANA YEARS: "They were the greatest years of our lives."
