Dick Olufs, at the time of his graduation in 1948, was considered to be the best freestyler in the school’s history. Olufs served as captain of the swim team for the two years he swam at Augustana and he was also an end in football and a track hurdler.
Olufs won all 40 of the freestyle races he entered. At the time of his graduation he held all school records in the 40, 50, 60, 100, 220, and 440 freestyle events. He also held the conference record in the 50, 100, and 220. We welcome into the hall of honor a true champion athletically.
