Described by Augustana baseball coach Lenny Kallis as the smartest and most deceptive pitcher he had ever coached, Curt Cook served as the Vikings’ ace for each of his four seasons at Augustana. He was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player as a junior and as a senior in 1965, he recorded a perfect 7-0 record and was selected as a first team All-American, a first for an Augustana pitcher.

Cook’s prowess on the diamond was surpassed by his ability in the classroom. His 3.9 grade point average earned him Augustana’s Scholar Athlete Trophy, given to the senior athlete with the highest four-year GPA. He was also honored with election to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

Following his graduation from Augustana, Cook went on to earn both his Master’s, in 1967, and his Ph.D., in 1970, from the University of Iowa in the field of computer science. He went on to serve as an associate professor on the computer science department at  Oregon State University.
